Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
What's up everybody? It has been a pretty boring week out here in DFW. Most everybody was out of town or with family, so we didn't really have much to do. I guess thanksgiving happened so that's pretty cool. We went to the Corliss family for thanksgiving, and that was super fun. We went over at 3:30, and the food wasn't ready till about 6:30, so we spent most of our time babysitting their kids haha, I read just about every children's book in the whole world with their son James, he was the funniest. I guess my life is sad cuz I couldn't beat a 4 year old in a light saber battle hahaha oh well. Not a whole lot of service this week, so that was pretty boring. The big news is Elder Wilhelm got the call that he is heading out to Germany, so I'm super jealous/sad this week haha. Wilhelm is probably my favorite out of the whole apartment. He is a character haha, and he is a huge skier, so he will definitely be missed dearly. Had just under 150 coronavirus scares t...

Think positive, be grateful

What's up everyone? This week has certainly been something else haha. It's been pretty good in the sense that we have gotten a lot of good missionary work done, so it is going great. Just as I am starting to love the Avondale ward, it is starting to seem like I'm gonna be getting moved to the Bond's Ranch ward here in a couple of days so that's exciting. Still same apartment dw. The drama in our apartment has continued to progressively get worse and worse, but my goal rn is to focus on the positive. It is easy to get down when you are focused on all of the negative things. I hope y'all turned into the message from President Nelson, that was a super cool message, and shockingly helpful in improving the morale of most missionaries out here. So that was a blessing. We also had a mission conference this week, and that was awesome. Elder Teh of the 70 was presiding over that meeting, and that was super cool. Elder Teh shared some great and awesome spiritual messages,...

Transfers and Stuff

What's up everybody? It has most certainly been an interesting week out here in the DFW. And by interesting I mean really boring and even more frustrating, gotta love it. Only about 600 more days of getting bashed on facebook, and I am already sick of it,  but who’s counting?! We went to dinner at our bishops yesterday, and they are a really tall family, like almost Larson tall and so we went to the bathroom to wash our hands, and the light switch was literally at eye level to Elder Thurgood haha I wont let him live that one down. We also had transfers this week, and that has been interesting. We picked up a new guy, Elder Morris, so now we are in a trio. That's been really fun. He’s a little more laid back and Thurgood only wants to edit videos. It's kinda an interesting dynamic when the kid who's been out for 4 weeks is pushing everyone to go and do missionary work haha. We set up a lesson with a guy named Jim for December 4th, and I am excited to actually teach an in...

Just another week in the ghetto

What's up everyone? This has definitely been an interesting week out here in the DFW. To be honest as far as missionary work goes, Avondale is super slow and super frustrating haha. Especially with how limited we are able to contact people, we are pretty much just limited to doing service for people, which is awesome. On Saturday we gotta do some service for a family that has like 300 acres, a super sick lake and the whole 9 yards. Honestly a dream property if I were a little bit more yee-haw, but I miss my mountains way too much to ever live out here. Anyways I caught a couple of fish there, super small but still caught them, while I was cleaning the lake lol.  Ended up in downtown Fort Worth today, we went and played some top golf with a couple of the other zones around here. Super sick to meet a bunch of the other elders. Currently am sitting in some shrimp restaurant, we will see how good this ends up being haha. The big news this week, we got 4 baptismal dates. Haha just kiddi...

Babe's chicken (literally)

What's up everybody? This has seriously been the weirdest week of the mission yet hahaha. The drama in the mission quad continues this week, and it has honestly been super funny until I realize I will likely have to deal with this for 7 more weeks haha. Heard yall got snow up there in UT, I'm jealous, it has just been almost freezing cold, windy, and misting for 4 days straight. I actually love it out here in Texas, I could totally live out here except Utah is better hahaha. The part you all came for, the drama. Let's just say that my companion has a sister missionary sense of humor (no offense to you sisters I actually laugh at your jokes sometimes haha). He is also pretty passive aggressive and is always trying to be better than everyone. So him and Elder John have kinda a rivalry, and John just says everything how it is so Thurgood is not a fan. Love the guys but they gotta chilll. And Thurgood is pretty selfish, so it's especially difficult to be his trainee cuz he ...

This week on mission quad drama

What's happening everybody? I made it out to Texas (finally) and let's just say that this place is pretty crazy. I am in a super poor area called "Avondale". Nah I'm just playin it's actually insane how rich everybody is out here, it doesn't even make sense how consistently huge every house is out here. The members of the church out here are all great people and they really do their best to try and feed us. We really are well taken care of. Unfortunately as I am in an extremely rich area, the work is extremely slow. We have a new member that we can teach lessons to, and that's about it. We teach lessons to some people from Columbia and South America, but there hasn't been much fruit so far. Covid makes it nigh impossible to find new investigators unfortunately, facebook proselyting is kind of a joke, we set up a video introducing ourselves to our areas facebook group and didn't get a single like on it lol. I am living in probably one of the sic...

Week 6/7 or Week 4 idk

Hola amigos! Time is a little bit funny as a missionary, because it feels like a lifetime ago that I was set apart. It also however, feels like just yesterday me and Jones were tryna set up our first comp study😂. I honestly wouldn’t trade it for anything with the exception of maybe learning a little bit more spanish😂. I wouldn’t trade out my district for anything, and I get along with all of them super well its crazy. Its pretty sick because no matter who I get put in a breakout room with we are guaranteed to be chilling. I would describe the last couple of weeks of the MTC like the last week of July where you’re ready to go back to school, but also you are kinda freaked out to go back to school cause its in Texas, and then its 5000 miles away in Argentina. It’s times like these where I feel blessed to have a super Stoic mindset, because I am not worried to be leaving Utah in 3 weeks. Any of you in the MTC, a good tip us to just not think about the language you are gonna learn, cuz i...

First victim of the MTC

Image
Whats up everybody? There is honestly not really anything new that is going on in the MTC, everything is just review at this point. I only have about 6 more days worth of classes and then I am done! I am not supposed to leave until the 20th, it seems like I am never going to get out of the basement at this point. Every day my excitement for leaving to Texas grows, and my will to pay attention in class decreases lol. Speaking of excitement, we got out of class early this week because my teacher’s neighbor got shot! I didn’t get to hear the shots, but my teacher acted like it was nothing! I guess don’t mess with the wrong crowd in Mexico lol. Oh and by getting out of class early i mean we only finished about 10 minutes late. Count your blessings! Till next time Elder Larson This is the Wasatch Front part of the district minus Elder Jones (dont forget to leave room for the book of mormon) This is my companion Elder Jones cuz he is too lame to make the drive Don’t worry it looks just like ...

Week 3 or 4 i honestly have no clue

Whats up everybody? Yall dont have to worry i am already tired of trying to speak spanish, so I won’t make you pull up google translate to read this email lol. You guys honestly aren’t missing out on much so far, so I will just flex my fine juice box collection in the fridge. I seriously have everything from super healthy costco brand to capri suns. Be jealous. Hahaha I’m just kidding you guys have nothing to be jealous of, its actually kind of a drag sometimes. You should be jealous of all the Spanish speaking people who I have been able to speak with. I understand very little of what they say, but you can feel the genuine goodness that these people just radiate. Especially Hermano Mun, he is a king. I also got a facebook, so I have gotten about 5000 friend requests from across the world, I guess missionaries are popular or something. You can go and add me, my name is Justin Larson, I can’t promise I will post that much at least I get out in the field, sorry. Probably the highlight of...

No nos escalofriante (Nah we chilling)

Image
Que rollo pollo everybody? Sorry I'm emailing yall a day late (not that any of you care lol), yesterday was kind of loco. It has been such a crazy and interesting week for honestly everybody. If I'm being honest, the more we are taught in Spanish, the less I actually learn. The teachers are gettin a little bit too confident in our understanding of Spanish, and everyday it becomes more difficult to understand them. I guess learning 100 words a day might help with that eventually though. I got to go through the temple yesterday, and what a cool experience that was. I honestly do not think that I have ever felt the spirit so strong. It is honestly a miracle that we were able to get into the Bountiful Temple at all, not even considering how soon we were able to get our appointment in. Not much has changed really since my last email, except they are expecting so much more from us now, and after giving a couple of 15 minute lessons, I am starting to feel a little bit more confident i...

Primera Semana

What's up everybody! It has been such a crazy week here in the MTC. Haha just kidding I stare at a computer for 8 hours everyday. I barely ever get to leave my house, so that's kinda exciting. For real though I have learned more in the last week than I probably ever have in my life. It started out pretty chill, because I already knew everything from previous Spanish classes. That didn't last long, as we covered pretty much everything I learned in two years of Spanish in two 3 hour lessons. It's been a struggle ever since honestly but it is most definitely worth it. There is honestly no other way to describe my district other than a bunch of lads and lasses. My companion Elder Jones and I are literally the exact same person, except he is from Draper so his mom drives one of those Porsche SUVs. To be honest you could think of that as the greatest blessing, but also, we can never study anything because we get along so well. Love all my district and my teachers but let'...
